Mauro Vendimia Seleccionada 2003

Nach 30 Jahren verließ der Macher hinter dem legendären Unico die Bodegas Vega Sizilia. 1998 wandte er sich der bereits 1980 gegründeten Familien-Bodegas Mauro zu. In kürzester Zeit versetzte er der Bodegas Mauro einen Qualitätschub, so daß sie heute zu den ganz großen Spaniens gehört. Dabei war die Bodega Mauro eine der ersten, die ohne Klassifizierung produzierte, also ohne "amtlichen" DO Status! Mariano Garcia legt auch bei den Weinen Aalto, Leda, Viña San Roman Hand an, welche jeder für sich ein unvergleichlichen Wein ist.

100 % Fino Tinto (Tempranillo) für 30 Monate in amerikanischer und französischer Allier-Eiche ausgebaut.

Alkoholgehalt: 15,0 Vol.%

Dichte, rubinrote Farbe mit dunklen Violettönen. Ein hinreisendes Bukett nach schwarzen Beeren, Pflaumen, Kirsche, Tabak und Gewürznoten. Am Gaumen riesig und komplex. Intensive Konzentration von schwarzen Beeren, wunderbar ausbalanciert mit Tanninen und einer stabilen Säure. Außerordentlich langes und komplexes Finale. Trinkreife: 2008-2028. Unbedingt dekantieren!

It has that slightly baked (from the searing heat of the vintage) aromatic character found in the best 1959 Bordeaux as well as fragrant notes of pain grille, pencil lead, mineral, blueberry, and blackberry liqueur. On the palate the wine is opulent, complex, intense, and super-concentrated. It has a firm structure and enough tannin to develop for another 5-7 years. The finish lasts for longer than one minute. Drink this superb effort from 2012-2030. Because of its geographical location 10 km from the boundary of Ribera del Duero, Bodegas Mauro does not qualify for the more prestigious D.O. Currently it has 35 hectares of vineyard in production. Winemaking is in the hands Alberto and Eduardo Garcia, sons of renowned Vega Sicilia winemaker Mariano Garcia." Drink 2012 - 2030 $110 (110)

Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Sep/Oct 07 ($103) Inky ruby. A powerfully scented bouquet offers ripe cherry, blackberry, mocha and espresso, with almost porty richness. Gentle acidity adds verve to the deep, liqueur-like dark fruit flavors, with serious tannins building on the finish. Weighty, chewy and a bit brooding today, but this has superb material.
